Larry Dablemont has long proven his talents with the written word on matters of the out of doors but with his book, RIDGE RUNNER, he has even surpassed himself.

Very well written series of Turkey Tales told by someone who respects the bird. Practical advice and thoughtful comments. I really enjoyed the book and would recommend it to a beginner or experienced Turkey Hunter.

Mr. Dablemont has given us a very nice collection of stories, tales and articles, which, for the most part, take place in the Missouri Ozarks. The author has certainly captured the essence of the local culture and is certainly a good story teller.

LARRY DABLEMONT
Larry Dablemont was born in the southern Missouri Ozarks on the Big Piney River. His grandfather, was an old-time river man who trapped, fished, built johnboats and ran a fishing camp. Following in the footsteps of his father and uncles, Larry began guiding fishermen on the Big Piney in his grandfather's johnboats when he was only 13 years old. He loved the outdoors from his early boyhood and began writing about the world he knew when he was in high-school.
Hoping to someday become a game warden, he attended college for two years at School of the Ozarks College near Hollister, Missouri, then attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he obtained a B.S. degree in Wildlife Management in 1970. He went from there to become the Outdoor Editor for the Arkansas Democrat Newspaper in Little Rock and one year later accepted a position as Chief Naturalist for Arkansas State Parks Department. Two years later he moved back to the Ozarks and worked for a time as a Naturalist for the National Park Service at the newly designated Buffalo National River. During that time he continued to write an outdoor column for the Arkansas Gazette, and began writing outdoor articles for national magazines, like Outdoor Life, Field and Stream, and Sports Afield.
Larry's very first national magazine article was published in 1972 in Outdoor Life, entitled "Old Paint" the story of his boyhood on the Big Piney River with an old wooden johnboat. That article was selected by a New York Publishing Company, Ehre and Dutton, as the best outdoor story of the year, and published in a book entitled, "Best Sport Stories of 1972". In 1975, living in North Arkansas, Dablemont decided to become a full-time freelance writer, and has now written several hundred magazine articles for more than a dozen national magazines and about 3500 newspaper columns for more than 100 newspapers. More than 30 of his outdoor photographs have illustrated the covers of various outdoor magazines.
